Sure Start local programmes
Sure Start local programmes work with parents-to-be, parents, and young children in disadvantaged areas to promote the physical, intellectual and social development of babies and young children so that they are ready to flourish when they go to school. They do this by:
- Improving services for families with children under the age of four
- Spreading good practice learned from local programmes to everyone involved in providing services for young children
524 Sure Start local programmes were established between 1999 and 2004. All are expected to become Sure Start children's centres.
