The data collected from engaging young people was collected in a number of different ways to ensure the data was correct, including one-to-one data capture from young people, from youth workers and social workers who work closely with young people, and group sessions with particularly challenged young people.
The challenge was to set up a number of different methods of capturing data. Methods the targeted youth support team set up included:
- One to one data capture youth workers and social workers used a common
script to ask young people for their views on various issues. This was done
during existing group sessions over a seven week period, on a one-to-one or
one-to-a-few basis
- A mixture of group and individual sessions for particularly challenged
young people, facilitated by youth workers who work closely with them. This was
an intensive one-day session at an activity centre
- A workshop run by youth workers and social workers to get a summary of their view of young people's needs
Comments
Data was collected from 180 young people and input into a spreadsheet
for quantitative data. Further data was collected from youth workers and
social workers to input into qualitative data. This resulted in good
triangulation of data between quantitative and qualitative input.
