It was a surprise to senior managers to see how closely young people's views of their community corresponded with the views of adults.
In this pathfinder authority, two priority issues for young people were improving an environment that was dirty and scruffy and fear of the gangs that hang around the shopping precinct. These issues were shared by many older people.
This awareness identified a need to help young people present positive images of themselves as a precursor to building better relations between generations ultimately helping communities help themselves.
