This case study relates to Mobilise achievement 6: Stakeholders are identified and effective communications are in place
Nottinghamshire targeted youth support (TYS) pathfinder has actively involved health in the Deepen, Discover and Develop stages of the change process.
Situation
Nottinghamshire was aware of the importance of engaging health colleagues in the TYS agenda. In particular, the scope area Kirkby in Ashfield has a number of children, young people and families with mental health issues. The focus within the analysis stage was on emotional wellbeing and the involvement of health was key. A separate project multi-agency location team (MALT) had already been launched in the same geographical area by the local PCT.
Challenge
To merge the two projects (TYS and MALT) in Kirkby to avoid confusion of the local community. To acknowledge the importance of emotional wellbeing and the engagement of health while also addressing the other issues under the TYS agenda (eg. anti-social behaviour, truancy, substance abuse). To maintain the proactive engagement of health.
Response
The senior management groups of the two projects merged and this was formally signed off at a strategic level. Representatives from the health sector now feature in each of the change teams and one of the change teams is being led by a senior manager from the local PCT.
Results and benefits
Partnership working across the local authority and health is working very well within the newly combined programme (christened integrated services for Kirkby or ISK). The views and expertise of health colleagues can, therefore, be integrated into the new ways of working that are currently being developed. This should provide a helpful platform for integration of services into other arenas, namely adult services, and is great example of partnership working through shared objectives.
