In these case studies local authorities, and other organisations responsible for implementing targeted youth support (TYS), share emerging practice focused on workforce development; highlighting the actions needed to help those responsible to deliver the reform programme.

The case studies detail the challenges faced, the actions taken and the resulting impact, and offer some implementation tips for the following areas:

  • Strong supervision and support for practitioners

  • Equipping and training workers

  • Long-term workforce development

  • Terms and conditions to support multi-agency working

Their purpose is to give you a taste of the different practices as they emerge, as well as the opportunity to find out more about issues relevant to you and your authority.

To help you select the case studies most appropriate to your needs, we have provided further details of the contents here:

  • Gloucestershire County Council - putting the Connexions service out to public tender

  • London Borough of Newham - young people volunteering to gain skills and confidence to find work

  • North of England - developing the multi-agency workforce

  • Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council - TYS and its multi-agency approach breaks down cultural barriers and leads to service improvement

  • Sunderland Unitary Authority - TYS, a real motivator for cultural change
