These case studies look at the impact of targeted youth support (TYS) and TYS-related processes on young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET).

They outline the challenges faced, the actions taken and the resulting impact, and offer some implementation tips for others working with young people at risk of becoming NEET.

Their purpose is to give you a taste of the different practices as they emerge; the opportunity to find out more about issues relevant to you and your authority, and to illustrate how TYS helps vulnerable young people, through early identification, intervention and preventative work, to deal with their problems before they escalate.

To help you select the case studies most appropriate to your needs, we have provided further details of the contents here:

  • Bournemouth Borough Council -  three pronged approach cuts NEET by 25 per cent

  • London Borough of Harrow - financial rewards and intensive support reduce NEET by 50 per cent

  • London - the development of a London-wide index enabling the identification and tracking of young people who are NEET

  • Middlesbrough Unitary Authority - reducing NEET by 30 per cent

  • North Somerset Unitary Authority - supporting the most vulnerable into education, employment and training

  • Torbay Unitary Council - targeted learning provision reduces NEET by 30 per cent

  • Trafford, Manchester - the use of a multi-arts project to address conflict, gangs and young people NEET

Further case studies will be added as they become available.
