The Decision Point 1 (DP1) Launch Pack is a presentation given to the senior management team to help achieve clarity around the aims and objectives of the targeted youth support (TYS) redesign and agree the project process and timescale.

The sponsor for the TYS project will have worked to identify the nature of the redesign, the rationale for the work and the expected benefits for the local area, young people and their families. DP1 is the decision to proceed. It establishes senior management alignment and enables resources to be committed to the first phase of work.

The first half of the Project Initiation Document (PID) should already be complete prior to DP1, capturing proposals for purpose, scope, timescales/plan, governance and roles. The senior management team at DP1 are likely to suggest refinements to these proposals.

Following DP1 the project team can progress to a planning meeting to outline the project process in more detail, mapping out activities and responsibilities more specifically. This work is reflected in the PID.

The DP1 session lasts around two hours. Ideally, the first third involves presenting the launch pack, the second third involves hearing from senior stakeholders about the current situation, and the final third establishes agreements about how to proceed.

Preliminary presentations to key senior stakeholders can be important step of this process. They help avoid showstoppers and unanticipated challenges and help get stakeholders into the right space for the DP1 session. They also help refine ideas about the content and process that will be used.
