Provider Training and Development Agency
Topics Targeted youth support
Type Information and guidance
Date September 2006
Region Not Applicable

Once the change teams, their membership and their terms of reference have been agreed by the senior group, the Fast Start event can be held to launch the work of the Discover stage.

The objectives of the Fast Start event are to:

  • Mobilise the strategic stakeholders and partners in support of the development of an integrated model for targeted youth support within the wider children's services structure

  • Mobilise practitioner-based change teams to plan for the design of an integrated model

  • Share Decision Point 2 findings, conclusions and decisions

  • Generate high level plans for the Develop and Deliver stages

  • Agree models of governance and communication strategies for the next stage

  • Commence team building across the change teams

  • Understand the support required and what is available now

This is a complex agenda and typically requires one-and-a-half or two days to cover. The second day is particularly important in that change teams will have time to complete their planning and begin working together.

It is particularly important to focus participants on addressing the Decision Point 2 findings in a coherent, strategic way which addresses the Youth Matters vision of:

  • A single point of contact to support and challenge - a lead professional

  • A support package that draws on mainstream and specialist services of sufficient quality and quantity

  • A single route of referral to extra support from different agencies as soon as risks emerge

  • Help to access support earlier on

  • Support to live in a stronger family environment

Before running Fast Start you should ensure that all the activities in the Mobilise for Develop stage have been successfully completed.
