This guidance provides information on developing sexual health advice services in further education colleges and wider post-16 learning institutions. It aims to improve young people's sexual health, and support better achievement and retention among students in the further education sector.
This guidance has been produced jointly by the Department for Education and Skills and the Department of Health. It aims to help young people avoid unplanned pregnancies and STIs by providing contraceptive and sexual health advice services in locations which are easier for them access. It builds on similar guidance issued to schools earlier this year.
The guidance also aims to support better achievement and retention among students in further education. In particular, it aims to help them address sexual health concerns that might impact on their ability to learn effectively, or even cause them to drop out of learning altogether.
