This statutory guidance has been published to assist local authorities in completing their duties to secure sufficient childcare, which will enable parents to work and undertake training. This duty comes into force from April 2008.

Other duties to secure information, advice and training for childcare providers, come into force from October 2007.

These duties are being introduced under sections 6-10 and section 13 of the Childcare Act 2006.
