The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is an international agreement that sets out a comprehensive set of rights for all children, trying to establish a global standard for the way children are treated.

The UK signed the convention on 19 April 1990 and ratified it on 16 December 1991. As a signatory, the UK Government is required to submit periodic reports setting progress in implementing the convention.

The UK first reported to the UN on 15 March 1994, producing its second report on 14 September 1999. The report, which is available to download above, was submitted on 15 July 2007.

The report overall has three distinct parts; the first part focuses on the United Kingdom's progress in implementing the Convention on the Rights of the Child; followed in the second part by summaries of the progress made by each Overseas Territory and the Isle of Man.  Lastly, the third part consists of annexes.

The report has been written to the committee's guidelines. It addresses their concluding observations to the previous report, and explains progress in implementing and monitoring the convention.
