Capturing current insights on the most effective ways forward, these discussion papers are ideal for use as a prompt for professionals in the field as they consider the content of new roles and training, and the development requirements of the children's workforce in the future.

The first paper, Understanding the skills needed by BHLPs, their supervisors and managers, published in October 2007 should be read in conjunction with the second, more recent paper, Approaches to training lead professionals and budget-holding lead professionals.

Published in March 2008 as part of the mainstreaming report, the second paper builds on earlier work; sharing further approaches to developing skills, knowledge and behaviours.
