Options for Excellence was a review of the social care workforce being led jointly by the Department of Health (DH) and the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).
The work undertaken by the review has been pulled together into this final report, identifying suggested areas of priority for action, both in the short term and the long term.
The findings build on existing reforms and provide a framework which will guide future developments for the social care workforce and get the maximum value from available resources. It sets out a clear vision for the social care workforce of 2020 and priority areas for change.
The final report contains the following priority areas for future action:
- Learning organisations and continuing professional development
- Recruitment and retention
- New ways of working
