Why Jason Died a DVD familiarisation resource

Purpose

The drama Why Jason Died is intended to familiarise key professionals and their managers with the processes to be followed when a child dies, to provide information and to stimulate discussion. The DVD demonstrates in practice, the statutory guidance in Chapter 7 of Working Together to Safeguard Children (2006). The DVD is accompanied by a CD and a set of FAQs that may be raised in the course of watching Why Jason Died. Copies of the DVD and a letter have been sent to all Local Safeguarding Children's Boards (LSCBs).

You can obtain further copies of the DVD by emailing Prolog. Online links to the DVD can be obtained by emailing Katy Garrett. This will enable LSCB web administrators to encode links into their own training webpages. Requests should come from either LSCB Chairs, LSCB Business Managers, or LSCB Training Leads. The set of frequently asked questions can be downloaded.

Target Audience

The DVD has been developed for a range of professional audiences. It focuses on the roles and responsibilities of those who are responding to an unexpected death of a child, and includes information about the roles of LSCBs and overview panels. More in-depth training will be required by those who will have key roles in either responding to or reviewing information about the deaths of children. Information about training materials can be viewed on this website .

Health warning

Viewers may find some scenes distressing. It is therefore recommended that the DVD is viewed with a colleague or a group of colleagues. Also that a manager or designated professional is identified who is well placed to provide support as necessary.
